OFFICIAL
COVID-19 UPDATE
As many of you
have already read in the newspaper and on Facebook, there will be No racing in
2020. After reading Executive Order 65, Bill Sawyer has decided he will not
operate and run the track without fans, and with the current restrictions, we
do not anticipate the chance to race any time soon. For that reason, we will
not open for the 2020 season and will step back and get ready for an even
bigger and better 2021 racing season. Stay safe and healthy.

Schedule (Date
/ Event):
In light of the
Governor’s eased restrictions for racetracks effective 29 May, Southside
Speedway would like to convey to our drivers that we will continue to monitor
the situation into June. Under the current guidelines we cannot operate with
fans in attendance: “No spectators or
members of the public are permitted to attend the event. This includes owners,
family (unless the guardian of a minor child), as well as outside vendors. Only
individuals essential to the operation of the event are permitted to attend.”
Due to this
regulation, we are making the decision to remain closed, for now. Thank you for
your continued patience in these difficult times.

COVID 19 Update
- After much review of the guidelines to reopen Motorsports Facilities from the
Commonwealth of Virginia
(https://www.governor.virginia.gov/…/Virginia-Forward-Phase-…) many restless
nights and much prayer, I have decided that for the immediate future, Richmond
Dragway will not reopen during this restrictive phase of reopening. Clearly,
the restrictions in place are designed to facilitate major events (with TV and
outside revenues) to continue to operate (i.e. NASCAR) and that is more than
acceptable. There were a number of deciding factors in this decision including
health & safety, financial considerations, and general principle.
Richmond
International Raceway (RIR)
600 East
Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA
Known as
America's Premier Short Track, RIR offers great night racing action and a
commitment to the fan experience. One of the most popular facilities among
drivers and fans in all of motorsports, Richmond International Raceway annually
hosts two NASCAR Doubleheader weekends, featuring the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
and NASCAR Nationwide Series, under the lights on a ¾-mile D-Shaped oval. The
unique layout traditionally produces exciting side-by-side racing, yet drivers
reach high enough speeds for a superspeedway feel. Combined with first-class
amenities and a focus on the fans, guests at Richmond International Raceway can
expect to experience what "Racing Perfection" truly is.
